There could not be a better night to welcome the completion of the Mackay Basketball Stadium’s new Permanent Seating Project than at the first event for fans for the season – the Mackay Basketball Community All Star Game.

The Morrison Liberal National Government’s investment of $291,000 had allowed Mackay Basketball to realise their goal of putting in permanent seating at the main court – the Crater.

The construction of this new grandstand at the venue’s show court, including space for storage rooms, will enable Mackay to host regional, state and national junior championships.

A premier sporting facility of this scale is a fantastic asset for the Mackay region, providing an economic boost to local businesses every time a competitive match is held.

Basketball has a passionate and dedicated following in Mackay, with up to 7,000 people using this venue each year; this upgrade will provide better spectator safety. It also saves Mackay Basketball by removing the cost of hiring scaffolding and storage units.

Having this facility in Mackay is a fantastic win and it opens up the town to more exciting opportunities which will benefit the local community and local businesses.

Achieving this outcome has certainly been a team effort and I congratulate Mackay Basketball and all of their supporters on this outcome.

The Morrison Liberal National Government invested $291,000 in the $391,804 project, with Mackay Regional Council providing $100,000 and Mackay Basketball Inc. contributing the remaining funding.
